New Scientology Brochure Promotes Literacy & Education
The Church of Scientology spotlights Applied Scholastics in a new publication. Applied Scholastics provides tools to reverse declining educational trends through the technology of study developed by L. Ron Hubbard.
In March 2013 the Church of Scientology released a new brochure—Scientology, How We Help: Applied Scholastics, Achieving Literacy and Education.
Illiteracy costs government, business and taxpayers trillions of dollars and the cost in human terms is incalculable.
The United States Department of Education reports that every year, one in three high school students—more than 1.2 million—drop out. Other industrialized nations suffer the same plague—dropout rates average nearly 15 percent in Europe. Some 30 million American adults score at “Below Basic” in rudimentary language skills, and 60 million more can perform only the simplest everyday tasks involving words and numbers.
Recognizing the effects of lowered education standards and literacy levels, Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard isolated the precise causes for the success or failure of any activity or study and an actual “technology” of learning with which to master any subject. These educational breakthroughs are collectively known as Study Technology.
Applied Scholastics is a fully independent, nondenominational organization supported by the Church of Scientology and by Scientologists. For more than four decades it has made the technology of study available internationally.
Study Technology not only helps students resolve study difficulties and overcome barriers, but also enables them to become self-sufficient, independent learners who can be responsible for their own lifelong learning and education.
In his research of the subject, Mr. Hubbard discovered that the main impediment to a student’s ability to retain and effectively use data was the absence of a technology of how to study. This included his discovery of what are known as the three barriers to study. Study Technology, or Study Tech as it is commonly called, includes the precise methods to overcome these barriers.
In 2003, to meet the international demand for Study Technology, Applied Scholastics opened a residential campus at Spanish Lake near St. Louis, Missouri. This 100-acre training center is the international headquarters of Applied Scholastics and the first college of Study Technology.
Teachers and administrators from public and private schools, tutors, corporate business trainers and educational consultants from around the world come to Applied Scholastics at Spanish Lake for training in Study Technology. Residential and daytime professional training are also available, with many courses offered for postgraduate and continuing education credits.
Spanish Lake also offers a full schedule of courses and workshops on specific aspects of Study Technology as well as studies in techniques that enable students to become more accountable, self-directed and self-advocating.
Applied Scholastics International has trained over 135,000 educators from 42 nations who, in turn, have brought Study Technology to millions of colleagues and students. The organization works with hundreds of affiliated schools and educational programs throughout the world, providing the effective learning tools developed by L. Ron Hubbard.
The brochure Scientology, How We Help: Applied Scholastics, Achieving Literacy and Education is one of a series of publications presented by the Church of Scientology International to meet requests for more information about the Scientology religion and its support of global humanitarian initiatives and social betterment programs. Applied Scholastics International is a secular nonprofit public benefit corporation that addresses head-on the problem of illiteracy by making broadly available L. Ron Hubbard’s discoveries in the field of education and literacy.
