Sandra Calkins—Starting Out Right in Life
Scientologist Sandra Calkins gained invaluable experience as a personal assistant. Her profile is one of 200 “Meet a Scientologist” videos available on the Scientology website at www.scientology.org.
In her video at www.scientology.org, Sandra Calkins’ infectious smile lights up the screen while her values and self-determined confidence give insight into her success as a nanny and personal assistant.
After graduating from high school in Clearwater, Florida, Calkins was offered a job caring for the children of a working couple who needed a full-time nanny. She became the family’s personal assistant once the children were in school.
“I loved the whole family and adored my job,” says Calkins. “I played with the kids, helped them with their schoolwork and made sure they got everywhere on time. I took over doing the shopping, cleaning and scheduling too. It really kept me on my toes.”
After eight years as the family’s chief organizer, in 2010, Calkins, now 26, moved to California, where she accepted a staff position at the Church of Scientology of Sacramento.
“I had planned a trip to Los Angeles and stopped on the way to visit my boyfriend in Sacramento,” she says. “I fell in love with the city and the staff at the Church of Scientology there. When they invited me to join them, I was thrilled to become part of the team.”
Calkins is tackling her new responsibilities with the same self-confidence and vigor that made her a success in her previous work.
“I’m a Scientologist because I found it works for me,” says Calkins. “The things that are important to me are my moral code and my integrity. I tell myself what to do and I run my own life.”
