Mayuko Ikeda: Mother, Manager and Scientology Mission Director
Mayuko Ikeda loves to help—her husband, her son, her business, and her Church. Her video profile is one of 200 “Meet a Scientologist” videos available on the Scientology website at www.scientology.org.
Mayuko Ikeda watched her mother change before her eyes. She had always been a hardworking woman, but suddenly she was so much more energetic, happy and alive.
“What did you do?” she asked her. “Scientology” was her mother’s reply.
“I had to find out what this was all about,” says Ikeda, so when her mother began offering introductory courses in Scientology at her home, she decided to attend.
Ikeda read what Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard said about children: “A good, stable adult with love and tolerance in his heart is about the best therapy a child can have.” This made quite an impression on her, as she was pregnant with her son, at the time.
“What I learned in Scientology is that my son is an individual and not my ‘property’,” she says. “He is eight years old now. I have always treated him as a person who has his own rights, but he doesn’t abuse the freedom I give him and he is happy and self-determined and loves to help people.”
Ikeda, 39, also studied L. Ron Hubbard’s administrative policies. Then managing the family business, a plastics recycling company, she put the principles she learned to use to improve efficiency and increase productivity.
“It was a small business then, employing 10 staff,” she says. “Using this technology we grew to 50 staff and expanded our business by 400 percent in four years.”
Husband Hitoshi, 45, also a Scientologist, is a civil engineer. With Ikeda’s mother, the couple has taken on making Scientology available to their community by opening the Church of Scientology Mission of Hamamatsu, Japan.
“What I like best about working at the Mission is seeing people change,” Ikeda says. “When they first arrive they are burdened with problems and upsets, they are critical, negative and sometimes overwhelmed. I love being able to help. When they win in life, I win.”
