Dentist Kirk Youngman Gives People Something to Smile About

Scientologist Kirk Youngman chose dentistry as a way to help others. Scientology has helped him broaden his sense of responsibility. His video profile is one of 200 “Meet a Scientologist” videos available on the Scientology website at www.scientology.org.

Most people would not describe a visit to the dentist as their favorite pastime—painful memories of dental visits can make all but the most fearless cringe. But Scientologist and dentist Kirk Youngman goes out of his way to make his patients relax and help them understand what is going on.

In his “Meet a Scientologist” video on www.scientology.org, Youngman explains why interpersonal communication skills are an essential element in his practice.

“When patients know exactly what’s going on, they feel a lot more comfortable,” he says.

When growing up, Youngman knew he wanted to work in healthcare. He considered becoming a veterinarian but decided on dentistry where he could work with people and help them.

“The dental condition of the average person tends to worsen as the years go by,” says Youngman. “To me, it’s not good enough to just patch things up. As much as possible I work to fully restore teeth and jaws to a healthy condition.”

A Scientologist for nearly 20 years, Youngman, who is based in Sacramento, California, says his religion has expanded his sense of responsibility.

“When I first got involved in Scientology I saw it as something that would help me feel better,” he says, but reading the Code of a Scientologist opened his eyes to what being a Scientologist really means: “To use the best I know of Scientology to the best of my ability to help my family, friends, group and the world.”

Always active in Scientology-sponsored initiatives, whether helping teens avoid drug abuse and addiction or promoting human rights, Youngman is proud of his Church’s involvement in improving conditions in the community and the world at large.

“I have realized that if we as a people don't address and handle the problems of our society they will continue to worsen,” says Youngman. “To be a part of a movement of that magnitude is something I never hoped for. I have more life and am more a part of life as a result of Scientology.”
