Scientologists Fight Crime with Drug Prevention at D.C. National Night Out

Church of Scientology National Affairs Office promotes drug-free living in Washington, D.C., on National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

Volunteers from the Founding Church of Scientology of Washington, D.C., and staff of the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office joined in the celebration August 6 of the 30th annual National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

Each year on the first Tuesday of August, citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials come together on National Night Out in the name of safer communities.

Drug abuse is a key factor in crime. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, 60 percent of those arrested for crimes test positive for illegal drugs at the time of arrest.

The Church of Scientology supports The Truth About Drugs initiative and Scientologists work in their communities year round, distributing Truth About Drugs booklets and introducing educators, law enforcement and community leaders to the Truth About Drugs materials to help youth decide to live drug-free by providing them factual information on what drugs are and what they do.

On National Night Out 2013, Scientologists set up booths in the seven police districts throughout D.C and introduced community leaders, police officers, probation officers, teachers, parents, and youth to the Truth about Drugs initiative.

The Truth About drugs booklets and videos provide youth with the facts they need to decide to live drug-free, and the Church of Scientology makes these materials available free of charge to educators, law enforcement and community programs.

Scientologists on five continents work in their communities to empower others with the truth about drugs. The Church and its members are dedicated to eradicating drug abuse through education.

The Church of Scientology has published a brochure, Scientology: How We Help—The Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World, to meet requests for more information about the drug education and prevention initiative it supports. To learn more or read the brochure, visit the Scientology website.

Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier which prevents any widespread social progress—drugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”
