British Scientologists “Gold Medal” in Drug Education and Prevention
Featured in the newly released brochure, British Scientologists carried out the largest anti-drug operation in history, organizing the distribution of one million Truth About Drugs booklets during the London 2012 Olympics.
If there were an Olympic event in drug education and prevention, London Scientologists would have taken gold. As people flocked to the Olympic and Paralympics July 27-September 9, they distributed 1 million copies of Truth About Drugs education booklets.
Featured in the newly released brochure: Scientology: How We Help—The Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug Free World, 300 turquoise-T-shirt-clad volunteers sporting backpacks filled with drug education booklets converged on 27 London boroughs. They were joined by the Jive Aces—UK’s No. 1 jive and swing band—performing atop a specially appointed double decker bus.
Operation headquarters was the Church of Scientology London on Queen Victoria Street, where volunteers could stock up with their Truth About Drugs booklets and share and hear the latest news.
By the time the Summer Games ended and the torch was passed to Rio de Janeiro, site of the 2016 Olympics, volunteers had passed the halfway mark of their run for the “gold”—a three-quarters of a million booklets in the hands of people of all ages and nationalities. Dauntless, they raced on, and by the Paralympics closing ceremony September 9, they had completed distribution of a full million copies of Truth About Drugs.
The Church of Scientology is dedicated to eradicating drug abuse through drug education and prevention. In the past year alone, the Church has supported publication of more than 7.5 million Truth About Drugs booklets and thousands of banners, posters, information packets and educator kits, making them available free of charge to health educators, law enforcement officers and other drug prevention specialists. With the publication of Scientology: How We Help—the Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World, the Church of Scientology is encouraging use of the materials by all who share the goal of creating a drug-free world.

Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier which prevents any widespread social progress—drugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”
The Church of Scientology supports one of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns. It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugs—factual information on what drugs are and what they do—usage rates drop commensurately.
